Competition Volunteers

With your contributions in our competitive debate community, Kansas continues to lead in debate competitions nationwide.

Volunteer judges are vital to the overall success of a debate competition, and play important roles in the competitive debate community; without our volunteers, competitions would not be possible. Our volunteers come from all walks of life: past competitors, teachers, parents, and even business and legal professionals. Volunteers are impactful and influential for student success in debate and beyond.

Responsibilities as a Competition Judge include:

  • Timekeeping
  • Asking Questions
  • Managing exchanges
  • Overseeing final remarks
  • Providing feedback
  • Deliberating and Choosing the Winner

Judges Registration

Ad Astra is proud to work with coaches and partners to create a State-wide database of judges who are available on a weekly basis to help programs provide competition opportunities to their students.  We are currently working with KSHSAA and the NFHS to create language and training requirements that address community expectations for behavior and create accountability for non-school judges.  Expect more information in January!

Get Involved. Volunteer!

The Ad Astra Debate League is in need of competition volunteers for judging and overall organization of a competition. Whether you’re a veteran debater or someone looking to get involved, you can make a difference in keeping Kansas debate competitive!

Want to Sponsor a Student?

The Ad Astra Debate League is always looking for generous sponsors, mentors, and donors for scholarship and networking opportunities. We also offer many opportunities for students to compete in a number of debate events at the Collegiate level.
